The Dakota Building is a residential building located in the Upper West Side of New York City. It was designed by architect Edward Clark and built in 1884. The building’s main entrance is a double-height archway on 72nd Street, which leads to the courtyard.
John lived in the Dakota Apartments in New York City during the 1970’s. Lennon and Yoko Ono bought four apartments at 1 West 72nd Street in 1973. The apartments occupied a big part of 8th floor of the building and included a recording studio, a kitchen, and an office downstairs. Lennon’s life came to an end in the entrance to the building on December 8, 1980.
The Dakota was also home to many other celebrities, including Judy Garland, Lauren Bacall, Leonard Bernstein, and Rosemary Clooney.
